BeautyRest Sleeptracker Monitor

If you want to monitor your sleep but don’t want to strap a device to your  wrist or head body, then you’ll need to consider one of the dedicated non-wearable sleep tracking solutions.

This relatively new category of sleep-tech, popularized by products like Beddit and Sense is still quite small, but earlier this year it gained another member, the BeautyRest SleepTracker.

At a glance

BeautyRest is the flagship brand of the Simmons Bedding Company, which was founded in 1870 and is one of America’s largest mattress manufacturers.

In recent years, the BeautyRest has started to introduced sleep tracking technology into its product range, culminating this year with the release of its first standalone, dedicated sleep monitor, the BeautyRest SleepTracker, which claims to turn any bed into a smart bed.

Design and Ergonomics

BeautyRest SleepTracker consists of two components, the sleep sensor system and the processor box. The BeautyRest SleepTracker comes with two sensors, so couples can independently track their sleep. You place the sensor at the pillow end of your bed as explained in this video.

Each sensor connects  by wire to the processor, which in turn is connected to the mains and also your Wifi. The system integrates into any smart home IoT network, alongside devices like Amazon Alexa, Nest thermostats and Philips Hue lighting.

The advantage of this system is that you never have to worry about starting or stopping your sleep tracker, syncing your data or charging batteries. The BeautyRest SleepTracker is always on, and starts working as soon as you lie on the bed.

Once installed, there’s no need to physically handle the sleep tracker again. All controls and functions are managed via the device’s Android/ iOS apps and the integrated SleepTracker web interface..

As well as tracking movement, the BeautyRest SleepTracker sensor tracks both respiration and heart rate. The Sleeptracker cloud-based artifical intelligence engine takes your sleep data and gives you a detailed analysis of your light sleep, deep sleep and REM phases. Over time the Sleeptracker algorithm continues to learn and adapt, providing users with insights related to their sleep data.

The BeautyRest SleepTracker app incorporates several features:

  • AI Sleep Coach – this tracks your sleep improvement over time and provides you with bespoke insights about your sleeping habits, and tailored advice to improve your sleep
  • Sleep Cycle Alarm – this uses data form the sensor to detect your early morning light sleep stage to wake you at the optimal time
  • Advanced Sleep Analysis- this offers reports summaries
where you can see daily, weekly, and monthly trends of all your sleep metrics
  • Amazon Echo/ Alexa Integration – this allows you to access system controls,, sleep reports, and, in future upgrades control of many other smart home devices.

A single sleeper version of the BeautyRest SleepTracker is due to be released in Q3 2017. Watch this space for more news.
